Red Tiger Talk
  • The Red Tiger Tournament is this Sunday at Briarhill Middle School in Highland Village.

  • Tickets for the tournament are available in class this week at the discount price. Tickets will be available on tournament day at the full price.
Our tournaments are fun and
everyone wins - improving self-esteem!

Physical and mental skills are reinforced!

Adult competitors have fun too!
  • Don't worry white belts, you will be ready! It is a "winners tournament" so every child will earn an award. Please note that tournament participation is one of the requirements for students wishing to belt test at the end of the semester. See Junior Study Sheet for belt test requirements.

  • Children are paired with a student with same belt rank, size, and gender. They spar once for first and second place awards. Our Red Tiger Tournaments are NOT open tournaments, as only Red Tiger students compete. The advantage of this type of tournament is that matches are very fair since all students will have the same amount of training time.

  • Additionally, Red Tiger Tournaments are the safest in the country because we require students to wear head gear with face shields - which we provide free-of-charge. It's a great way for students to experience competition in a friendly environment.

  • Your tournament ticket is valid all day at the tournament. Students are encouraged to watch our adults compete.
Red Tiger Round Table

My five year-old white belt student enjoys the class, but I'm not sure if he's ready to belt test. Should he still go to the tournament?

Yes - the tournament is meant to be a learning experience for the kids, regardless of belt testing. But, please keep in mind that expectations for a five year-old white belt to test up is much different than a 10 year-old blue belt. Let the Head Instructor make the decision to belt test your child as they know the benchmark by age and rank.

Just by nature of friendly competition, a different lesson will be learned at each tournament whether it be "do your best," "improve sportsmanship," or "be humble in the ring," etc. In addition, self-control, confidence, proper behavior under pressure, and other skills are common benefit.

What if you are in an extreme emergency where you need a stranger to help you?

  • Getting help from strangers can be difficult in today's world.

  • People are usually more willing to help if you tell them specifically what to do instead of asking for general help.

  • Instead of screaming, "Police", you may have better luck by yelling, "You in the green shirt, call 911 immediately!"
