Ed Oboli

Mr. Ed
Oboli began training with Red Tiger Karate in 2003 and earned his Black Belt
in 2007. He currently trains and teaches in Carrollton at Homestead Elementary
and Carrollton Senior Center. Mr. Oboli has always been a supporter of the
martial arts and the discipline associated with them.
Mr. Oboli originally joined our program to stay physically fit and to also
serve as a positive role model for his kids. He enjoys the opportunity to
grow as an individual through learning and teaching different aspects of karate.
Mr. Oboli competes every semester and likes the fun and camaraderie aspects
of the tournaments. Most of all, Mr. Oboli enjoys teaching and working out
with his kids Eddie and Brooke - also in the program.
Mr. Oboli holds a BS in
Management Science, an MBA in Industrial Management/Engineering, and is certified
by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) as a Certified Quality Manager (CQM).
He currently works for Citigroup as Manager, Systems Quality Assurance. Mr.
Oboli is active in various professional organizations, including the American
Society for Quality, the Board of Examiners, Texas Award for Performance Excellence
(Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award), and the Strategic Benchmarking
Team (Texas Award for Performance Excellence). He has also earned various
leadership awards in his career, including the Verizon Excellence Awards,
the GTE Chairman’s Leadership Awards, and the Sprint Chairman’s
Quality Award.
In addition to karate, Mr. Oboli teaches Quality Management for the American
Society for Quality. Every student that Mr. Oboli taught has passed the rigorous
three-hour certification exam that he prepares them for. Mr. Oboli has also
taught Quality Management and engineering classes at various Fortune-100 companies,
including Sprint, Verizon, and Citigroup.
Mr. Oboli grew up in Nigeria and came to the U.S. (Wisconsin) to attend college
in 1981. He's lived in Dallas since 1985. He is active in the community, attending
church regularly with his family and volunteering for Meals
On Wheels. His hobbies include tennis, chess, soccer, running, reading
and writing. He is currently the assistant soccer coach for Tigerlilies, Brooke's
soccer team. Mr. Oboli and his wife, Caroline, have three children: Eddie,
Brooke, and Lauren. His kids also participate in Red Tiger Karate.
Mr. Oboli says it best, "Living karate takes discipline and focus - two
keys for success in life." As a family man and community leader, Mr.
Oboli is an excellent example of on-going success in life.
